I wasn't expecting to resort to this...

Let’s face it. Life with a screaming baby is hard. You don’t know what’s wrong and you don’t know how to fix it. People all around you are saying “Oh, it’s just a phase, it’s just colic, yada yada yada.” But no. You know something just isn’t right. This has been us the past few weeks. Munch has gotten worse and worse as the days had gone by getting closer and closer to her 4 months. We tried everything. Gripe Water, the swing, snuggles, car rides, stroller rides, I even tried giving her a little water. I mean everything. I tried cutting dairy out and nothing was working. I tried formula too for a night or two and that honestly seemed to help a little.

Finally after taking her to her 4 month appointment I think we've settled on a mix of silent reflux and bad sleeping habits. It’s a pain in the butt. You don’t see any spit up hardly ever but hear it coming up and back down. She’s got all those classic symptoms. Arching back, night waking and just flat out screaming when she does, congestion, etc.

We've ended up doing something I was never really prepared for. Something so simple. She is now on a generic Zantac. Amazing. She slept until 3:30, woke up to nurse, went straight back to sleep, and slept until 5:30, when she again only woke to nurse. Have we stumbled upon something glorious here? I’ve almost got my happy, sleeping through the night, taking naps baby back!

I’ll admit, I never really ever wanted to give formula or drugs. I have nothing against moms who do use them; there are tons of reasons why it’s needed and welcomed. I’m one of those secret crunchy moms who want to breastfeed for well over a year and use only breast milk for at least 5-6 months. Guilty. I seriously love it and will totally cry when I don’t have a little baby anymore to nurse. But right now, if I can still breastfeed and it helps my baby feel better, I’m willing to do anything.

Have you needed to do anything you thought you never would for baby’s sake?

That's a Wrap! ...A Boba Wrap That Is!

I have become increasingly obsessed with baby-wearing so when Boba generously offered to let me review one of their wraps I was overjoyed. I will admit, my first thought when I opened the package was something along the lines of “Oh my gosh, what did I get myself into?” There was a bunch of fabric and I just looked at it like “This carries my baby how?”. I didn’t realize how super easy the whole wrapping process was! Plus, it’s like riding a bike; once you do it once, it gets so much easier every time after that and if you ever need help there’s all sorts of resources online right on the Boba website. I will admit I still have a few difficulties and didn’t realize in these pictures that I should have spread the fabric out more over my shoulders but now that we’re home we’ve been babywearing around the house so I can get some things done and it’s making more and more sense every time I put the wrap on.

Recently we were on a trip to Toronto and visited Casa Loma so my awesome pictures are from this gorgeous castle! We were lucky because we walked there and thought the place was stroller friendly. …it was not. So, we busted the wrap out and Munchkin loved it! I think it made her feel a lot more in the action. She was up and involved with us at our level and could observe and interact with things better than if she was stuck in her stroller.

I still (out of force of habit) hold her close when our picture is taken but I really need to realize I don’t need to when she’s wrapped. The fabric is just breathable enough but still feels snug and comfortable. It has a stretch to it so you have to get used to not leaving much slack for baby. It’s taken me a few tries and will probably take me a few more to get it just right. It’ll stretch right over baby from newborn to 18 months. I also love how it’s a one size fits all carrier! The fabric length and stretch means that just about anyone can use it. ...even while breastfeeding! It hides everything perfectly and can be very discreet.
